The National Capital Area Crime Stoppers program is recruiting for a qualified candidate to join its volunteer Board of Directors in the role of Treasurer. Board Members are elected by the Board for (renewable) 2 or 3-year terms.  The Treasurer is appointed an officer by the Board.  Service on NCACS’s Board is without remuneration.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a difference as the program fosters community partnerships with police, working closely with the public and media to keep our communities safer.

Responsibilities

The Treasurer ensures financial accountability of the program by:

  • providing guidance as required to the President and Board of Directors in support of collecting/disbursing funds and reporting financial results
  • ensuring current and acceptable financial policies and practices are in place
  • attempting to reduce/eliminate non-productive expenses and enhance generation of revenue
  • preparing and maintaining monthly financial statements in QuickBooks
  • preparing required “charity reconciliation reports”
  • meeting annually with the auditor to finalize the Financial Statements in advance of the Annual General Meeting
  • preparing the annual GST/PST refund application for submission to Canada Revenue Agency

The Treasurer will be expected to:

  • successfully pass a Police Background Check
  • prepare for and attend the Board Meetings (two hours the last Thursday evening each month)
  • foster a positive working relationship with Board Members
  • participate in fundraising events and various activities throughout the year
  • offer meaningful contributions, expertise and experience necessary to guide the program to continued success
