Crime Stoppers and the Ottawa Police Service are seeking your assistance in order to solve thefts and robberies of electronic devices.

Since October 1st, 2011 approximately 50 thefts and robberies have been reported in the city of Ottawa where an electronic device has been specifically targeted. Year to date, personal robberies are up 8% and swarmings have increased by 20% over the same period in 2010. This represents 46 more swarming and 13 more personal robberies.

In many instances the thefts /robberies are happening on OC Transpo buses where the thief dashes off the bus after the theft or at an OC Transpo stop while people are waiting to board a bus. In most cases the devices are simply being grabbed from the hands of unsuspecting victims. However, in some cases, people have been assaulted during the course of the thefts, escalating the crime to robbery (please see the text below for safety tips).

If you have information about these crimes, the suspects or any other criminal activity call Crime Stoppers at 613-233-TIPS (8477) or toll free at 1-800-222-8477. You can follow us on facebook, youtube and twitter. Remember Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display, we will not record your call and you are not required to testify in court. If your information leads to an arrest or a charge, you could qualify for a cash reward of up to $2000.
