Ottawa Police Service is seeking the assistance of the public to solve two thefts that occurred at the same Canadian Tire Store located on Campeau Drive in Kanata.
On April 18, 2009 at approximately 1:45pm a young man was seen on video entering the Canadian Tire Store located at 8181 Campeau Drive in Kanata. He was observed proceeding to the Auto section where he examined the Garmin GPS units on the shelf. After going to the washroom he then returned to the same area where he removed nine GPS units, worth about $3000, from the shelf and ran out of the store via the rear door of the store. An alarm sounded as he left but when staff arrived a few moments later there was no sign of the man.
On May 8, almost three weeks later, two suspects entered the store at 3:41 pm via the service entrance and proceeded to the electronics section. The stocky suspect was seen using his cell phone and after he finished his conversation he grabbed a boxed TV set, worth about $800, and walked quickly down the aisle toward the rear of the store. He then exited the store via the warehouse section, with the aid of his accomplice, to the street outside at 3:45pm. Tire marks were found outside the building near the exit door of the warehouse section where the thieves had made their exit.
The first suspect was a white male, 25 to 30 years old, slim build weighing about 140 lbs and wore dark clothing and a baseball cap with a logo on the peak. At the second theft the same suspect was identified as wearing the same baseball cap but on this occasion he had a beard and wore a green long sleeved shirt.
The second suspect was a white male of approximately the same age 25-30 years, but was heavier set, weighing about 180 lbs. He had a black goatee beard and wore a dark blue t-shirt, dark pants and a baseball cap.
