Crime Stoppers and the Gatineau Police Service are seeking your help in solving a robbery that occurred at the restaurant bar Le Moulin in Gatineau.

On May 19, 2008 at about 6:00am two men drove up to the restaurant-bar at 68 Main St in Gatineau in a white Ford Econoline van that had tinted rear windows. They proceeded to follow a waitress into the bar by the tradesmen's entrance that had been opened by the owner. Once inside, the smaller of the two men attacked the waitress and the taller of the men donned a balaclava and tackled the owner of the bar, brandishing a hand gun.

The two men continued to fight behind the bar but for no reason the masked man took off his mask and revealed his face to the restaurant employees. Fearing that they may be arrested the two suspects decided to leave the premises. On the way out they took the cash register from the counter with them and escaped in their van.

The first suspect was a sturdy individual of about 40 years of age, 6 ft tall with a long reddish blond beard. He wore spectacles and had on a nylon blue green jacket and blue jeans. Some of his upper teeth were missing and while he spoke in English he had a very strong French accent. He wore pale brown gloves and a powder-blue scarf.

The second suspect was white, about 30 years old, approximately 5ft 5 inches tall and weighed 150 lbs. He wore a black leather jacket, blue jeans, a cap and a powder blue turtle neck shirt.

The Ford van was a recent model.

Crime Stoppers and the Ottawa Police Service are seeking the help of the public in solving a number of thefts that have occurred at the Ottawa Airport over the past couple of months.

Video films of the incidents show that the thefts are often accompanied by distractions of the victims before the thefts are committed. Thieves also take advantage of personal belongings that are being left unattended in various spots.

On 26 June 2008 at about 12:45pm the airport's surveillance cameras captured two thieves in action. These two thieves were olive skinned, between 25 and 40 years old. One of them had dark wavy hair, a moustache and was of stocky build. He wore a grey suit with a dark buttoned up shirt. The second suspect had short dark brown hair, was clean-shaven and wore a dark jacket, black dress pants and a light blue dress shirt.

The National Capital Area Crime Stoppers program reports web tips have edged ahead of telephone tips for the very first time according to 2008 statistics. The community-run program serves several municipalities in Eastern Ontario and western Quebec, including Ottawa and Gatineau. The number of SMS or text messaging tips were much lower, because the service was established partway through 2008.

By the end of 2008, the 23 year old program has caused the recovery of nearly 57 million dollars worth of stolen property and illicit drugs.

"Crime Stoppers brings together caring citizens, the media and the police who work together to help keep our streets safe," says Keith de Bellefeuille Percy, president of the National Capital Area Crime Stoppers. "Under the slogan 'Crime doesn't pay...but Crime Stoppers does!' we have paid out nearly $700,000 in awards for the anonymous tips that have helped the police solve these crimes.

Donations to the Ottawa-based program may be made at crimestoppers.ca where people can also safely and anonymously pass along tips about unsolved crimes.
