Hintonburg assult on police officer

Crime Stoppers and the Ottawa Police Service are seeking your assistance in identifying the suspect involved in an assault and shooting that occurred in the Hintonburg area.
On August 25, 2006 at about 2:00am Neighborhood Officers of the Ottawa Police Service were involved in an undercover operation designed to reduce prostitution in the Wellington Street, McCormick Street area. A lone female officer, dressed in civilian attire, acted as a decoy and other police officers were positioned nearby to act as back up and arrest any obvious clients.
A black male was observed walking towards the undercover female officer and then attempting to solicit her services. The officer declined his advances, stating that she was waiting for another “John” who was in the area. The suspect left but a few minutes later he returned and proceeded to run towards the officer from behind. He stopped near the officer, pulled out a firearm and then grabbed her and struggled with her. During the struggle he continued to shout obscenities but as soon as he saw the back-up officers coming toward him he decided to make a run for it.
The suspect fled the area and ran to the Royal Bank parking lot near the scene. He began to climb over a chain-linked fence when he was grabbed around the ankle by one of the pursuing officers. Other officers warned the pursuer of the gun and as the suspect fell to the ground on the other side of the fence he reached out to retrieve his weapon. At that moment a second officer fired a shot at the suspect who immediately got to his feet and fled the area. A search of the neighborhood could not locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5’7” in height and with a very slim build. He was clean shaven, 18 to 22 years old and was wearing blue jeans and a white oversize golf shirt with blue stripes across the chest.
