During the early morning of Saturday the 23 September 2006, at about 02:50 hrs a group of young people was seen loitering in the area of Ruth Wildgen City Park, adjacent to the Abraar Elementary School located at 1085 Grenon Avenue. Shortly afterwards the Ottawa Fire Department responded to a fire that was burning in the southwest corner of the school. The fire damaged two classrooms and caused in excess of $100,000 damages. The school was closed but has since re-opened and the Ottawa Police Service’s Arson Section is investigating these crimes.
